The Arab varsity volleyball team inched up to No. 9 in this week’s state volleyball rankings (see page 6 for the full rankings).

On Tuesday, the Lady Knights defeated Etowah 25-13, 25-11 before falling to No. 7 Southside-Gadsden 13-25, 23-25.

On Thursday, the Lady Knights lost to Crossville 22-25, 18-25 before defeating Boaz 25-18, 25-13.

The JV Lady Knights continued their winning ways, defeating Etowah 25-9, 25-8 and Southside 25-17, 21-25, 15-11 on Tuesday before beating Crossville 25-12, 25-8 and Boaz 25-22, 23-25, 15-12 on Thursday.

• Arab Junior High

On Monday, the Arab seventh grade team defeated Guntersville 2-0 but lost to Albertville 1-2.

The eighth grade team defeated Guntersville 2-1 and Albertville 2-0.

Both teams are playing in the Marshall County Tournament today at DAR.

• Brindlee Mountain

The Lady Lions played at Fairview on Monday and the varsity lost in three sets, 22-25, 10-25, 18-25. The JV team fell 11-25, 11-25.

The middle school teams were supposed to play at home on Monday but the matches were postponed because of equipment failure.

The eighth grade team is competing in today’s county tournament at DAR.
