Even though they fell out of the 5A state volleyball Top 10 this week, the Arab Lady Knights still had a very productive fall break.

On Monday, they beat Guntersville 25-16, 11-25, 13-25, 25-21, 15-13 in a huge 5A Area 15 match. They also beat Plainview 25-8, 23-25, 15-11.

Then on Thursday, they beat J.B. Pennington 25-9, 25-18 and Jacksonville 24-18, 25-20).

In middle school action, the Arab eighth grade team completed a highly successful season by winning the Marshall County Tournament. The eighth graders defeated Guntersville 2-1, Boaz 2-0 and Boaz again, 2-1, in the finals.

The seventh grade team had to settle for a runner-up finish. The seventh graders beat Albertville, lost to Boaz, beat Albertville again, beat Boaz, then lost to Boaz in the finals.


The Lady Lions’ varsity team won twice on Tuesday and played well in a tri-match on Thursday. On Tuesday at Cleveland, they beat the host team 25-22, 25-16, then defeated West End 25-20, 25-18.

On Thursday, they took two of the three matches to three games before losing. They lost to host team Fairview 11-25, 12-25, then fell to Boaz 24-26, 25-15, 8-15 and Plainview 25-19, 21-25, 9-15.

Over the two days of play, Brindlee Mountain’s Jasmine Avelar had a streak of 49 good serves.

The JV team played only at Fairview, losing to the host team 19-25, 18-25 and to Holly Pond 7-25, 9-25.

In middle school action, the eighth grade team lost in the Marshall County Tournament to Boaz (15-25, 10-25) and to Douglas (20-25, 28-26, 11-15).
