Kendall Guthery, a seventh grader at Arab Junior High School who plays travel softball with Athens-based Southern Vortex 09, was part of the team that won the recent USSSA Fall ā€œCā€ State Tournament at Good Hope.

Southern Vortex, a 14-under team ranked first in the state and second in the nation in C Class power points, came out of pool play 1-1 on Oct. 16, then reeled off wins over Reckless (4-3), Flash (13-6), Virus out of Huntsville (3-1) and Red Rage out of Moulton (8-5) to capture the state championship.

Guthery, who plays shortstop and pitcher, also played with Southern Vortex 09 when it won the 12-under state championship on June 19-20. The team won all three games in the C Class tournament 6-0.

Kendall is the daughter of Alexandria and Chris Guthery. Her twin brother, Landon, also goes to Arab Junior High.
