The Arab 10-and-under all-star baseball team is undefeated in the postseason no more.
Walker County took care of that in the first round of the Dizzy Dean state tournament at Scottsboro on Friday.
But give the Arab squad credit for tenacity. The team, which went through district and area tournament play unbeaten, bounced back from its first postseason loss to defeat Chelsea in an elimination game on Saturday morning and Addison in a losers bracket game Saturday night.
But it all came to an end on Monday night. Arab fell to Jackson County and was eliminated from the tournament. Jackson County won again on Monday night, against Rock Creek, to stay alive but still needs at least three more wins to possibly win the state title.
That’s the rocky road at team must face in the losers bracket of a 16-team tournament. It’s almost an impossible task win a team loses in the opening round, like what happened with Arab.
Jackson County also lost in the opening round, ironically to Rock Creek. Jackson County was set to face the Madison Stars on Tuesday night, with the winning team advancing to yet another elimination game right afterward.
The Arab 7-under team played in its Dizzy Dean state tournament in Madison and lost to Gardendale Maroon on Friday and to Chelsea Blue in an elimination game on Saturday.
