The Brindlee Mountain varsity volleyball team started out hot in the Marshall County Tournament at Boaz on Tuesday but a blown lead in its third match seemed to stop its momentum.

The Lady Lions defeated county foes Asbury (25-9, 25-7) and Douglas (25-22, 25-21) in pool play and then jumped out to a 12-0 first-game lead against DAR.

The Lady Lions held on to win the game 25-16, but DAR rallied to take the next two sets, 22-25, 7-15.

Through a tiebreaker, the Lady Lions were determined to be the No. 2 seed among county teams and drew No. 3 city seed Arab to start bracket play. The Lady Lions had no answers for the Lady Knights, falling 15-25, 8-25.

Arab went on to win the tournament. Kelsie Tyler was named to the All-Tournament team.

The JV Lady Lions lost three straight at the county tournament, falling to DAR 21-25, 17-25; to Douglas 25-15, 17-25, 11-15; and then to Boaz in bracket play, 9-25, 12-25.

On Monday, the varsity finished Area 13 play by falling to Susan Moore, 14-25, 10-25, 17-25. The Lady Lions fell to 2-4 in area play but did pick up a win Monday, defeating Hanceville 25-20, 25-14.

Last Thursday, the varsity lost at Westbrook, 19-25, 16-25, 22-25. The JV team fell 12-25, 4-25.

• The Brindlee Mountain Middle School won its first match of the season Saturday, defeating Fyffe in the Sure Shot Tournament. The Lady Lions lost their remaining games, to Munford, Decatur and Arab.
