Julie Stapler and Emma Butler finished one-two and teammate Mallory Maze took fourth to lead the Arab junior varsity girls team to a second-place finish in the Marshall County Cross Country Championships held Tuesday afternoon at Connors Island on Lake Guntersville.
Arab actually tied JV champion Albertville in points but the Lady Aggies won on a tiebreaker.
The Arab varsity girls also finished second, also to Albertville, and had three individuals make the Top 10: Grace Gosline (4), Delaney Maze (5) and Ashley Schwarze (7).
The Arab varsity boys finished third and had Luke Sanders (3) and Austin Smith (7) make the Top 10.
DAR was the host school. Arab did not field a JV boys team (JV is defined as runners in grades 7-9).
After Stapler, Butler and Maze crossed the finish line, the Arab JV girls had Maggie Wallace take 14th, Hannah Poston 16th and Casandra Roberson 17th.
The varsity girls also had Ragan Barnes to finish 14th and Arianna Guzman finish 36th.
For the Arab varsity boys, Braden Pitt finished 24th, Hunter Gronczniak 27th, Ty Edmondson 44th, Tyler Noblitt 46th, Evan Grimmett 47th, Mark Boatwright 55th and Carter Kelley 63rd.
Arab has two meets left on the schedule: the Last Chance Meet at Scottsboro next Thursday (Oct. 29) and then the Class 6A, Section 5 meet at St. Bernard in Cullman on Nov. 5.
The state meet is Nov. 14 at Moulton.
