Brindlee Mountain’s varsity basketball teams ran into a buzzsaw at home Friday night against 3A, Area 13 foe Susan Moore.

The Lady Lions, facing the third-ranked Lady Bulldogs, fell behind 7-24 early and never got it together, losing 27-71. Susan Moore hit 10 3-pointers and Brindlee Mountain hit zero.

Chantzley Kirkland led the Lady Lions with 14 points, making 7-of-10 from the free throw line.

The boys team also fell behind early but clawed its way back to lose 55-50. The Lions were behind 18-23 after one quarter, 25-37 at the half and 37-52 after three quarters before rallying to cut the deficit late.

Just like in the girls game, 3-point shooting made a big difference. Susan Moore hit 10 3’s while Brindlee Mountain sank four.

Andrew Byars scored 17 points and Caleb Scott had 14 to lead the Lions.

The boys JV team lost to Susan Moore 17-35. John Paul Taymon led the Lions with six points.

• On Tuesday, all three high school teams lost at Asbury.

The varsity boys fell 48-58. Blake Westbrook scored 13, Scott had 11 and Ian Garner added 10.

The varsity girls played a back-and-forth game before finally losing 43-46. The game was tied at the half, 23-23, and stayed close the rest of the way.

Kirkland scored 16 points and Karlie Westbrook had nine.

The JV boys lost 13-42. Taymon scored seven.

• Brindlee Mountain plays at J.B. Pennington on Saturday.


On Thursday, Brindlee Mountain’s middle school teams played at Douglas.

The girls team (combined seventh and eighth) lost to Douglas 17-19. Kaylie Mashburn led the way with seven points.

The seventh grade boys lost 19-36. Ashton Gregory and Connor Hardin scored four points apiece.

The eighth grade boys fell 22-34. Wyatt Sanford had eight points.

The middle school teams play DAR at home today.
