rab’s wrestling team was ranked second in 5A-6A in the first coaches poll of the season, and two Knights were ranked No. 1 in their respective weight classes.

Arab defeated Grissom 51-18 last Thursday, after the poll came out. The Knights on Tuesday lost at perennial 7A power Thompson 41-33 but defeated Hoover 58-18.

Arab was No. 2 behind only Gardendale in 5A-6A. The rest of the top 10 were (3) McAdory, (4) Homewood, (5) Pelham, (6) Chelsea, (T-7) Mortimer Jordan and Mountain Brook, (9) Jasper and (10) Wetumpka.

Jonathan Pugh is ranked first in the 1995-poind weight class, while defending state champion Caleb Roe is ranked first at 220, though he’s expected to compete eventually at a lower weight.

Other individuals ranked in the top eight are Colby Silva, 106, No. 6; Cabe Dunn, 120, No. 2; Tyler Collins, 126, No. 5; Patrick Lawler, 145, No. 3; Josh Roe, 152, No. 4; and Conner Knighten, 285, No. 7.

The poll is compiled by Murray Zogg, an assistant coach and Smiths Station.
