Lady Knights reap rewards of successful season

Arab’s volleyball program celebrated a hugely successful season during an awards banquet on Nov. 29.

Individual leaders were honored but it was the team itself that drew the most attention after the Knights won the 6A Area 15 regular season and tournament championships, the Marshall County championship and a Sweet 16 finish in the state tournament.

Team captains, as chosen by the players, are Anna McFerrin and Karli Walker. The Knight Award for most inspirational went to Skylar Ledbetter. And the Beast Award went to

Sami Kate Hudson for her hard work in the weight room during the season and off season.

Awards based on season stats included the top offensive player, Walker, with 359 kills and 89 percent hitting percentage; top defensive award went to Ella Ingram for 588 passes rated 2 or 3 and 445 rated 3 (the best); Kill Steal Award to Ingram and Moree McDonald (stole the most kills from an opponent; Most Dependable Server to McDonald for highest serving percentage (95.9 percent) and fewest errors; Aces Award to Sydney Ferguson for most aces (76); and Most Improved to Ledbetter.

Laney Kelley earned the Big Hands Award for making 97 blocks.
