The formal summer work is complete for Arab’s boys basketball players. Now it’s open gym time and possibly enjoying some outdoor activities until school starts back in August and practice resumes in the fall.
“Another blessed and successful summer of basketball by the back-to-back ‘Sweet 16’ varsity squad and the JV/ninth grade county champions,” declared head coach Justin Jonus at the conclusion of a camp at Birmingham-Southern College last week.
“The 1918-19 season season was one of the best years in Arab history and we hope there’s more made in 19å19-20. We look forward to seeing everyone this season!”
The Knights also went to a camp at the University of Alabama-Huntsville. Varsity, JV and freshmen all went to both camps.
At the BSC camp, the varsity and JV teams both went 5-1 while the ninth grade team went 3-3.
The varsity Knights beat Faith Academy, North Forsyth, Ga., Cauhalla, Ga., Mortimer Jordan and McAdory. The lone loss was to Vestavia.
The JV team, led by coach Brad Kitchens, beat Faith Academy, North Forsyth, Ga., Cauhalla, Ga., Ingomar, Miss., and Albertville. The JV teams also suffered its lone loss to Vestavia.
The Freshman team beat Danville, Mortimer Jordan and Gardendale. It lost to Vestavia, Springville and Albertville.
After the camp, the team visited the Cheesecake Factory in Birmingham.
