Virginia Arelene Vanzandt, 73, of Arab died Thursday, Dec. 24, 2020.

Mrs. Vanzandt was born March 6, 1946, in Holly Pond to Jera Lea Millwood and Thelma Arlene Griffin. She was married to Alton Vanzandt, who preceded her in death.

She retired from SCI, where she worked on their load-line. She was described by many as selfless and compassionate as she devoted her life to caring for others and helping those in need. She was very strong in her faith and attended the Hopewell Missionary Baptist Church for the majority of her lifetime. 

She is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law: Terry Lee and Janice Martin, Jimmy Ray and Deanette Martin and Ricky Dale Martin; daughter and son-in-law: Paula and Randy Bryan; grandchildren: Dylan Martin, Chris Martin, Shelley and Richard Moore, Ashley Pate, Candy and Weston Culpepper, Justin Martin and Delana Martin; great-grandchildren: Hayden Carter, Mavrick Moore, Lynnsey Martin, James Martin, Brandi Martin, Nicholas Lamons, Halen Williamson, Noah Williamson, Cahlen Ousley, Ketler Miotke, Klover Miotke, Creed Culpepper and Phoenix Pate; and a number step great-grandchildren. 

She was preceded in death by sons: Gary LaWayne and Randy Lynn Martin; and grandson: Brandon Martin; and great-granddaughter: Izabella Carter.

The graveside service was at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 29, 2020, at Hopewell Missionary Baptist Church with Arab Heritage Memorial Chapel directing
