Steve Atchley

Steven “Steve” L. Atchley, 64, of Arab died July 11, 2021, at Redstone Village Hospice, Huntsville.

Mr. Atchley was born Nov. 24, 1956, in Guntersville to Ernest and Gracie Atchley. He was married to the former Sherry Gullion for 32 years.

He grew up in the Diamond community, and was a dedicated employee of Cook’s Pest Control for over 42 years until his retirement in July 2020

He had a witty sense of humor and loved nothing more than making those around him laugh. He enjoyed “strumming” the guitar as he put it, motorcycles, airplanes and aviation, classic cars, camping and being with his family.

He was an avid reader and almost always had a paperback novel close at hand and was a huge Alabama Crimson Tide fan. He loved the outdoors and fishing on Lake Guntersville.

He was a member of New Brashiers Chapel United Methodist Church.

He is survived by his wife: Sherry Atchley; sons: Ben Atchley and Kevin Atchley, sister: Pat Isbell; brother: Jerry Atchley; mother-in-law: Nellie Gullion; and a number of nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a brother: Lonnie Atchley; sister: Faye Adams; and father-in-law: Gerald Gullion.

The funeral was at 4 p.m. Friday, July 16, 2021, at Arab Heritage Memorial Chapel with burial at Arab Memorial Cemetery. Arab Herigage Memorial Chapel handled the arrangements.
