Roger Glyn Hayes, 62, of Arab died Sept. 9, 2021, at Huntsville Hospital.
Mr. Hayes was born Dec. 27, 1958, in Huntsville to James and Sovola Rebecca Whisenant Hayes.
He worked for a number of businesses including Taco Bell, McDonald’s and previously owned restaurants in Arab and Eva, where he made his famous chicken salad. He had also sold cars, did flooring and construction and worked in hotel management.
He loved sports, especially baseball and Alabama football. He loved music, particularly rock music from the 1960s to the 1980s. He loved Jim Morrison and Glenn Frey.
He was a published poet. His works were funny, thoughtful, surprising and romantic. He had a spiritual awakening later in life and loved the King James Bible. He wanted to help people and teach them what he knew and learned.
He is survived by a sister and brother-in-law: Laura and Roger Posey; two nieces: June Howard and Penny and Brian Wood; two daughters: Jennifer Jones and Shelby Hayes; two grandchildren; and four special friends who stayed with him to the end: Josh Reliford, Jan Yager, Maggie Teague and Teresa Ellenburg.
His cremains were interred at Riverview Memorial Gardens in Fayetteville, Tenn., Oct. 2, 2021.
