Robert Earl Johnson, 72, of Somerville died Thursday, June 13, 2019, at his residence.

Mr. Johnson was born Nov. 24, 1946, to James Howard William Johnson and Sally Mae King Johnson. He was married to Dottie Johnson for 49 years.

He retired from the city of Huntsville, where he worked in the waste management department. He enjoyed family gatherings, farming, listening to blue grass music and watching Alabama football. He was passionate about anything with wheels and a motor and enjoyed NASCAR and loved racing.

He is survived by his wife: Dottie Johnson; son and daughter-in-law: Neal and Wendy Barnard; daughter and son-in-law: Karen Johnson and Jerry Self; grandchildren: Kynsi Barnard, Ashlyn and Brandon Barnard; sister: Jessie Lee Logan.

The funeral was at 2 p.m. Monday, June 17, 2019, at Brindlee Mountain Funeral Chapel with David Mangum and Van Johnson officiating. Burial was in Rescue Cemetery with Brindlee Mountain Funeral Chapel and Arab Heritage Memorial Chapel directing.

Pallbearers were Van Johnson, Dewayne Couch, James Couch, Carl Couch, Kerrick Whisenant and Derick Prince.
