Rickey Wayne “Rick” Nixon, 71, of Eastaboga and formerly of Arab died Friday, Sept. 18, 2020.
Mr. Nixon graduated from Arab High School in 1967 and received a bachelor of science in criminal justice degree from Jacksonville State University. He began his career in law enforcement in Piedmont and later joined Talladega Police Department. He also served with the Talladega County Sheriff’s Office and the Federal Correctional Institution (FCI) Talladega.
He served as the City of Talladega Municipal Court Clerk and Magistrate. He was a longtime and devoted member and officer of F.O.P. Racing City Lodge #26, where he also served as a trustee for the Alabama State Fraternal Order of Police.
He was a certified Paramedic and Assistant Scoutmaster for Troop #130.
He is survived by his wife: Selma Nixon; daughters and son-in-law: Sue Harris and Teresa and Mike Lackey; sons: Johnny Nixon, Kevin Medders and Jayden Medders; grandchildren: Johnathan Jones, Patrick and Amber Jones, Kelsey Jones and Brandon, Ashley and Eddy Bounds, Matthew and Annie Lackey, Hali Nixon, Megan Nixon; 10 great-grandchildren; brothers and sisters-in-law: Terry and Beverly Nixon, Randy and Susan Nixon and Paul Nixon; sister and brother-in-law: Velda and Larry Gobble; and sister-in-law: Jeanne Nixon.
He was preceded in death by his parents: Melvin and Annie Jo Duncan Nixon; and brother: Jeff Nixon.
The funeral was at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 22, 2020, at Usrey Funeral Home in Talladega with Dr. Stan Jett. State F.O.P. Chaplin Adolph South, Rev. Bob Jernigan and Scoutmaster Wes Patterson officiating. Burial was in Pine Hill Memorial Park with Usrey Funeral Home directing.
Pallbearers were Ron Smith, Ron Guy, Don Stephens, Andy Yarbrough, Al Findley, Rickey Simpson, Niki Pitts, Demarco Willis and Alan Watson.
Honorary pallbearers were Talladega County Sheriff’s Office, F.C.I. Talladega, Talladega Police Department and Scoutmaster Wes Patterson and Boy Scout Troop #130.
