Nancy Plunkett

Nancy Garner Plunkett, 87, of Monrovia died Tuesday, Nov. 2, 2021.

Mrs. Plunkett was born Aug. 15, 1934, to Thomas Benton Garner Sr. and Myrtle Sharp Garner. She was married for 63 years to Neal Plunkett, who preceded her in death in January 2021.

She grew up in the Monrovia community and lived there her entire life. She graduated from Monrovia High School in 1952.  Before becoming a fulltime homemaker for her husband, Neal, a worked for a while as a civilian for the U.S. Army at Redstone Arsenal.

She accepted Jesus as her Lord and Savior at a young age. She was a faithful member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church of Monrovia for over 70 years. Being creatures of habit, she and Neal sat in the same pew and seats at almost every Sunday morning worship service.

She is survived by nieces and in-laws:  Stephanie and Leigh Woods, Kim and Bill Holder; nephews and in-laws: Steve Garner, Greg and Tonja Garner, Jason and Jeanna Plunkett; sisters-in-law: Sue C. Garner, Sue T. Garner, Jane Plunkett; brother-in-law: Bobby Plunkett; and numerous great-nieces, great-nephews, great, great-niece and great, great-nephew.

She was preceded in death by a sister: Lorene Garner; and brothers: Benton Garner Jr. and Kenneth Garner.

 The funeral was at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 6, 2021, at Laughlin Service Funeral Home with Dr. Edwin Jenkins officiating. Burial was in Maple Hill Cemetery with Jonathan Plunkett officiating and Laughlin Service Funeral Home directing.

Pallbearers were Thomas Garner, Rex Vaughn, Walton Vaughn, Kim Holder, Taylor Jefferson and Sam Minshew.
