Edith Myris Painter Shipp, 86, of Arab died Friday, Jan. 1, 2021.

Mrs. Shipp was born Sept. 12, 1934, in Painter to Comer Painter and Edith Reed Painter. She was married to Richard “Dick” Shipp, who preceded her in death.

She had spent her earlier years working as a customer service manager with the company of Otelco and later retired to enjoy gardening, sewing and cooking.

She was a member of the Gilliam Springs Baptist Church since 1962. She served as a children’s Sunday school teacher for over 30 years and was a youth activities director. In addition she was proud to be a deacons wife, but above all, her life revolved around her family.

She is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law: Mike and Wanda Shipp and Mark and Vicki Shipp; daughters and son-in-law: Melinda and Doug Hamilton and Michele Shipp; sisters and brothers-in-law: Carol and James Guice, Meril and Ben Machen and Judy and Joe Tyner; 11 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; and one great, great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by a brother: Harold Painter; and granddaughter: Celena Kay Shipp.

The funeral was at 2 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 3, 2021, at Arab Heritage Memorial Chapel with Clint Maze and Frank Whitaker officiating. Burial was in Gilliam Springs Baptist Church Cemetery with Arab Heritage Memorial Chapel directing.

Pallbearers were Matthew Shipp, Nathan Shipp, Evan Shipp, Brandon Chastain, Trey Hamilton and Colin Shipp.

Memorials may be made to the Children’s Hospital of Birmingham, Alabama.
