Max Wayne Glass, 69, of Arab died Thursday, Aug. 29, 2019, at his residence.
Mr. Glass was born Jan. 19, 1950, in Blount County to James Noah and Ruby Inez Bramlett Glass. He married Peggy Ann Stewart on May 31, 1971.
He served and retired from the United States Army, serving during Vietnam, Operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm during the Gulf War and Operation Iraqi Freedom. He retired as a master sergeant. He was a highly decorated veteran receiving many honors including a Purple Heart and Bronze Star.
He worked in civil service at Redstone Arsenal for 24 years.
He was an ordained Baptist minister and was ordained at the Mountain Grove Missionary Baptist Church in the 90s where he was a member at the time. He was called to pastor the Pleasant Ridge Missionary Baptist Church, where he served for several years. He was most recently a member of the Westside Missionary Baptist Church in Arab.
He is survived by his wife: Peggy Ann Glass of Arab; sons: Stephen Wayne Glass of Jacksonville and Joseph Michael Glass of Arab; brothers and sisters: Vernon L. and Linda Glass of Arab, Bobby R. and Carolyn Glass of Joppa, Jimmy J. and Patsy Glass of Arab, Willard and Becky Glass of Cullman, Wanda Sue and Lex Shirah of Arab, Patricia and Robert Hall of Grant, Linda Walker of Arab, Bonnie and Ricky Mead of Skyline, Barbara and Jerry Brazelton of Guntersville and Troy and Leann Glass of Union Grove; Grandchildren: Hunter, Lacey, Taylor, Autumn and Michael all of Jacksonville; and a host of nieces, nephews, other family members and friends.
He was preceded in death by a brother: James Dalton Glass.
The funeral was at 3 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 31, 2019, at Arab Heritage Memorial Chapel with Chris Schaefers and Paul Gilbert officiating. Burial was in New Friendship Cemetery with Arthur Feemster officiating the graveside committal. Funeral honors were provided by the United States Army honor guard.
Pallbearers were Hunter Glass, Taylor Glass, Michael Glass, Daniel Mead, Mark Glass and Gary Glass.
