Lois Guerin

Lois Edna Guerin, 87, of the Cleave Terrell Hill community passed away quietly at her home July 6, 2022, after a short battle with lung cancer.

Mrs. Guerin was a woman of faith in God and cherished her family and friends. She sacrificed so much of her time helping others, especially the elderly. She worked for 27 years with Security Bank and Trust/South Trust Bank and retired in 1996. In 1997 she began working at the Arab Electrical Co-op and remained there until July 8, 2009, her 75th birthday.

She earned respect from her fellow employees and customers through her kindness, love, humor, and pleasant smile. She leaves a legacy of goodwill and generosity that will last forever.

She is survived by sons: Tim (Beverly) Guerin, Eddie (Donna) Guerin; adopted son: Trent (Teresa) Childers; grandson: Clay (Katie) Guerin; great-granddaughter: Minnie; and Charlie, her little dog and love of her life.

She was preceded in death by her parents: Henry “Gib” and Mattie Shumate; four brothers: Tommy, Joe Bill, Doyle, and Leamon Shumate; sister: Peggy Gann; and niece: Robbie Gayle Shumate.

The funeral was at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 9, 2022, at Arab Heritage Memorial Chapel. Burial was in Oleander Methodist Church Cemetery with Arab Heritage Memorial Chapel directing.

Pallbearers were Trent Childers, Jeff Gann, Caleb Thrasher, Russ Lowery, Todd Stephenson, and Larry Allen. Honorary pallbearer was Harlon Bowling.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to St. Judes Children’s Research hospital or The Oleander Methodist Church.

The family wishes to thank Dr. G.S. Rao (primary care physician) and nurse Hannah Williams for their compassionate care for Mrs. Guerin throughout the years. A huge thank you also goes to Karen Lowery, Ronnie Shumate, Trent and Teresa Childers and Mandy Willis who worked selflessly to assist in her needs during the last few years of her life.
