Lillian Rose Smith, 99, of Arab died Sunday, April 21, 2019, at Diversicare of Arab.

Mrs. Smith was born Oct. 12, 1919, in Marshall County to William H. McElroy and Dora Ann Tidmore McElroy. She was married to the late Elton Smith, who passed Oct. 29, 1998.

She enjoyed writing poetry, quilting, singing, cooking, gardening and tending to flowers and word search puzzles.

She was the oldest living member at Eddy Baptist Church. She became a charter member in 1952.

She is survived by her daughter: Dean Norris; sons and daughters-in-law: Don and Rhonda Smith, Jerry and Gail Smith, Wendell and Kathy Smith; sister: Irene Harper; grandchildren and in-laws: Sharon and Tim Morgan, Rodney and Samantha Smith, Sherry King, Ricky and April Smith, Lori and Justin Kelso, Jason Smith, Nathan Smith; 10 great-grandchildren; 1 great, great-granddaughter.

She was preceded in death by sisters: Gladys Smith, Lavonia Thrasher, Elner Webb, Mildred Hale; brothers: Quinton McElroy, William H. McElroy Jr., Clifford McElroy.

The funeral was at 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 24, 2019, at Eddy Baptist Church with Jacob Moody officiating. Burial was in the adjoining cemetery with Arab Heritage Memorial Chapel directing.

Pallbearers were Rodney Smith, Ricky Smith, Jason Smith, Nathan Smith, Tim Morgan and Justin Kelso.
