John E. Larkin Sr., 95, of Arab died Thursday, Sept. 19, 2019, at his residence, surrounded by his loving family

Mr. Larkin was born July 8, 1924, in Franklin County, Tenn., to John Monroe and Elizabeth Damron Larkin.

He proudly served his country during World War II in the United States Navy and retired from Redstone Arsenal

He was a faithful member of First Methodist Church of Arab. He enjoyed woodworking as well as Alabama, Auburn, and Arab football.

He is survived by his wife: Margaret Larkin; two sons and daughter-in-law: Gary W. and Ruth Larkin and John Jr. and Lynn Larkin of Huntsville; daughter and son-in-law: Nancy Elizabeth and Jimmy Shumate of Union Grove; nine grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a son: Nicky Larkin; daughter: Annette T. Larking; three brothers: Thomas Larkin, Monroe Larkin and Dave Larkin; and sister: Iris Schultz.

The funeral was at 1 p.m. Monday, Sept. 23, 2019, at Arab Heritage Memorial Chapel with Nicky James officiating. Entombment was in Brookwood Cemetery.

Pallbearers were John Larkin III, Joshua Shumate, Eddie Larkin, Dusty Larkin, Rick Lemke and Kevin Schaeffer.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to: Shepherds Cove Hospice, 408 Martling Rd. Albertville, AL 35951.
