John Burwell Henley, 93, of Arab died Tuesday, July 21, 2020, at Arab Assisted Living, where he had been a resident for the past 22 months.
Mr. Henley was born Sept. 16, 1926, to Horace and Alma Henley. He was married to Dorothy Ray Henley for 69 years. She preceded him in death.
He was one of the oldest living members of Mount Calvary Baptist Church, where he taught boys Sunday school for many years. He owned and managed Henley Market in Albertville until age 88. He considered it a privilege to serve the people of Albertville and Marshall County.
He is survived by his sons and daughters-in-law: John and Gena Henley of Auburn, Aubrey and Joan Henley of Rineyville, Ky., Tim and Felicia Henley of Guntersville; daughters and sons-in-law: Judy Buchanan of Albertville, Joan and Lester Hughes and Sarah and Bill Ostermiller of Guntesville, and Kim and Dave Hudson of Arab; 22 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; 11 great, great-grandchildren; sister: Vivian Middleton; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
He was preceded in death by brothers: Don Henley, Horace Henley and Bill Henley; sisters: Anna White Roper, Helena Smith and Eloise Goodman; and granddaughters: Bethany Grace Hudson and Kristie Franks Chandler.
The funeral was at 2 p.m. Thursday, July 23, 2020, at Mount Calvary Baptist Church in Albertville with Adams Brown Funeral Service directing.
Memorials may be made to Mount Calvary Baptist Church building maintenance fund, or Shepherds Cove Hospice of Marshall County.
