Jean Smith

Shelby “Jean” Smith, 83, of the Rainbow Crossing community died Sunday, Oct. 25, 2021.

Mrs. Smith was born Sept. 15, 1938, to Euell and Olive Thomas. She was married to Ray Haden Smith, who preceded her in death.

She balanced being a loving wife, mother and grandmother with successful careers in cosmetology and later real estate. For over 20 years, she was part of a three-generation real estate company with her daughter, Karen, and granddaughter, Holli.

Those that were in need, even complete strangers, always seemed to be led to her and she would always extend whatever help she could, no questions asked. She was belovedly known as “Mother Jean” to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She is survived by two daughters: Karen Smith and Jeanean Smith; two granddaughters and in-laws: Shea and Stephen Beard and Holli Rae and Jesse Shelton; and four great-grandchildren: James Haden Beard, Della Mae Beard, Raelee Grace Shelton and Fisher Thomas Shelton; and a host of nephews.

She was preceded in death by her infant daughter: Mary; and sister: Dorothy Jarvis.

Memorials may be made to Rock Springs United Methodist Church, 1904 County Hwy 6, Blountsville, AL, 35031.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date.

Arab Heritage Memorial Chapel is assisting the family.
