Gene Carroll

Eugene “Gene” Wesley Carroll, 61, of Kingsland, Ga., died Nov. 10, 2021, at his residence.

Mr. Carroll was born Nov. 20, 1959, in Anniston, to Jesse and Mary Carroll.

He was a 1977 graduate of Arab High School. He enlisted in the United States Navy in 1978 and retired with more than 20 years service in 2004. He received outstanding professional training and certification in the areas of ultrasonic and radiation testing. His conscientious work ethic earned him five Navy achievement medals.

Following his naval career, he worked for TRF in St. Mary’s, Ga., where he received many commendations and the Combined Government Service Award for 32 years after his retirement from civil service in 2016.

He was an avid hunter and fisherman. He enjoyed traveling, racquetball, Alabama football and Braves baseball.

He loved and was devoted to his family in Arab, where he often attended New Brashiers Chapel United Methodist Church with his mother when he came for visits.

He is survived by his mother: Mary Carroll of Arab; brothers: Kenneth Carroll of Blountsville and Jesse Carroll III of Arab; sister and brother-in-law: Susan and Mike Pope of Hartselle; eight nieces and nephews; and a host of great-nieces and great-nephews.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.
