General “Gene” Burean Bearden, 86, of the Ruth community died Tuesday, Oct. 1, 2019, at Shepherd’s Cove Hospice.

Mr. Bearden was born Aug. 1, 1933, to R.A. Bearden and Iner Underwood Bearden in Etowah County. He was married to the former Patricia Faye Gann, who preceded him in death in 2009.

He served in the U.S. Air Force and later worked at NASA.

He enjoyed fishing, gardening and spending time with his family especially his grandchildren. He loved participating in church activities and was a member of Liberty Church in Arab.

He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law: Rickey Dale and Brenda Bearden; daughters and sons-in-law: Delora Lynna and Mark Bennick, Susan B. and Michael McGee; 10 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; brother: Wayne and Loretta Bearden; sisters and brother-in-law: Frances Entrekin, Georgia and Joe Morris.

He was preceded in death by a grandson: Joshua Bearden.

The funeral was at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 2, 2019, at Arab Heritage Memorial Chapel with Keith Hodges officiating. Burial was in Brookwood Cemetery with Arab Heritage Memorial Chapel directing.

Pallbearers were David Throesch, Ian Keel, Jason Murphy, Joseph Dobbs, Mark Bennick and Scott Gann.

Honorary pallbearer was Larry Hodges.
