Fred Orville Harper, 93, of the New Home community died Friday, Dec. 25, 2020, at his residence.

Mr. Harper was born Aug. 16, 1927, in Cullman County to William S. Harper and Sophie Mae Harper. He was married to the former Gladys Wilson for 67 years.

He served in the United States Army in World War II and worked as a welder and cattle and poultry farmer.

He enjoyed the simplest of pleasures such as fishing, watching football and spending time with his friends and family.

He is survived by his wife: Gladys; son and daughter-in-law: Keith and Karen Harper; daughter: Sherry Harper; grandchildren: Megan and Nick Harper and Sarah Harper; great-grandchild: Bryson; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his brothers: Dock Harper and Gart Harper; and sister: Jean Burgett.

The graveside service was at 11 a.m. Monday, Dec. 28, 2020, at New Home Baptist Church with Kenneth Sanders officiating and Arab Heritage Memorial Chapel directing.

Pallbearers were Shane Bryson, Wayne Burgett, Bruce Bradley, Don Fleming, Donnie Garrett and Tim Kelsoe.

Horary pallbearers were Gary Harper, Kenny Wilks and Cotton Hall
