Emily Wilkes McElroy, 86, of Arab, died Wednesday, April 27, 2022, at Assisted Living of Arab.

Mrs. McElroy was born Oct. 30, 1935, in Wagram, N.C. She moved from North Carolina to Arab in 1967.

She was a member of Sweet Home Baptist Church. She took pride in being a good mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was a great asset to the community as a charter member of the New Friendship Home Demonstration Club, NECCA member, faithful church member, AARP member, and involved with the Retired Seniors Volunteer Program.

She enjoyed sewing and crafts. She did clothing alternations for the community, made numerous cheerleading uniforms, prom dresses, wedding gowns, and costumes for Arab Musical Theatre. She judged many 4-H and school contests and volunteered for vacation Bible schools. She regularly won many first-place ribbons for her sewing and crafts.

She is survived by her daughters: Debbie McElroy, Brenda King and Kelly Parrish; sister: Bonnie Thomas; 11 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and four great, great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband: William H. McElroy; and daughter: Emily Jo Bowman.

The funeral was at 11 a.m. Friday, April 29, 2022, at Arab Heritage Memorial Chapel with Tim Lynch officiating. Burial was in New Friendship Baptist Church Cemetery with Arab Heritage Memorial Chapel directing.

Pallbearers were Will Crenshaw, Eli Parker, Mike Thomas, Cameron Jones, Brian Jones and Taylor Sparks.
