Halbrooks

Doris Wilks Halbrooks, 79, of Arab died Sunday, Aug. 4, 2019, at her residence.

Mrs. Halbrooks was born on July 1, 1940, in Marshall County to Thomas Leroy and Charlsie Cranford Singleton.  She was married to Leon Wilks, who preceded her in death Dec. 17, 1996. She later married the Rev. Troy Halbrooks, who preceded her in death Sept. 5, 2018.

She graduated from Arab High School in 1958 and lived in the Hopewell community. She and her first husband were faithful members of Hopewell Missionary Baptist Church.  She and her second husband were members of Welcome #1 Baptist Church in Blountsville and lived in the Royal community.

After the loss of her first husband, she began working as a caregiver and took care of several friends and family over a period of several years. 

She is survived by her children and in-laws: Cheryl and Paul Kelley, Sonya and Jeff Bailey and Andy and Wendy Wilks of Arab; stepdaughters and in-laws: Renee and Gene Garner and Rhonda and David Bryant; grandchildren: Emily Freeman, Josh Bailey, Erin and Daniel Wright, Hannah and Matt Miller, Tré Wilks and Will Kelley; great-grandchildren: Austin Freeman, Matt Freeman, Lucy Ann Bailey and Kyndall Wright; stepgrandchildren: Jason and Jerri Garner, Scot Garner, Paul Bryant and Ondrea Edmondson; and four ste-p great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a brother: James Singleton of Arab.

The funeral will be at 4 p.m. today, Aug. 7, 2019, at Hopewell Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. Paul Kelley, the Rev. Greg Stone and the Rev. Michael Lackey officiating. Burial will be in the adjoining cemetery with Gober Funeral Chapel directing.

Pallbearers will be Josh Bailey, Tre`Wilks, Will Kelley, Daniel Wright, Matt Miller and Scot Garner.
