Verna Freddine “Dean” Hardy Harris, 84, of Huntsville died Saturday, Dec. 12, 2020.

Mrs. Harris was born April 14, 1936, in Tippo, Miss., to Vernon Fred Hardy and Edgle Christine Camp Hardy. She was married to Ronald Eugene Harris, who preceded her in death.

She graduated from Charleston High School in Mississippi and from Delta State University with a bachelors of arts in English and social studies. She was accredited to teach history in Alabama. She taught school in Missouri, Florida, Tennessee and Alabama at the Arab Junior High School.

She lived in Arab for 50 years before moving to Huntsville in 2016.

She is survived by her children: Robert Mitchell Harris of Leesburg, Va., Laurel Ann Harris of Huntsville and James Cary Harris of Atlanta, Ga.; grandchildren: Erik Mitchell Harris and John Patrick Harris; daughter-in-law: Donna Faye Westbrook Harris; siblings: Gay Lynn Moorhead of Seattle, Wash., and Dan Hardy of Stuttgart, Ark.

She was preceded in death by siblings: Marion Jeanette Bailey, Melvin Ray Hardy and Vernon Kimbrell Hardy.

The graveside service was at 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 19, 2020, at Brookwood Cemetery with Randy Evers officiating and Arab Heritage Memorial Chapel directing.
