Daisy Sims Kelley, 95, died Saturday, Dec. 11, 2021, at Marshall Manor Nursing Home.
Mrs. Kelley was born June 15, 1926, in the Sims community to Izena and Otto Sims. She was the third of 11 children. She married the Rev. James D. Kelley on Christmas Eve, 1943. He preceded her in death.
Her family’s old homestead still stands as a gathering spot for the family, which has grown immensely through the generations.
After her husband served in Germany in World War II, he was called to ministry, and together they pastored a number of churches in North Alabama where their devotion to his calling was deeply respected. She was a vital support throughout the 50-year ministry serving as a devoted wife and believer whose identity was in Christ.
She enjoyed gardening and will always be remembered for her colorful canna lilies and perfect pickling cucumbers. She could always counted on to deliver a meal or treat when someone needed encouragement, and her table was never found bare. Favorite recipes, like her chocolate gravy and peach cobbler, will live on through her family and friends.
She loved her family, giving unselfishly of her time to the raising of her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren who were her pride.. The words “no” or “I do not have time” were not in her vocabulary, and her loving spirit had no boundaries. She treasured nothing more than being surrounded by the love and laughter of her family and friends.
She is survived by her children and in-laws: Brenda Ballew, Glenda and Michael Carboni and Jim and Lisa Kelley; grandchildren and in-laws: Jonathan and Kim Ballew , Amy and Jim Harrison, Andrea and Michael Oliver, Adam and Tansy Carboni , Corey Stewart, and Olivia Kelley; great-grandchildren: Sydney Ballew, James Michael Harrison, William Harrison, Alice Oliver and Eleanor Oliver; sister and brother-in-law: Dellie Jane and Larry Cornelius; brother and sister-in-law: Gary and Beverly Sims; sisters-in-law: Bonnie Sims, Jeanette Sims, Judy Sims, Marie Sims and Sue Sims; and many nieces and nephews.
