Ailene Smith

Ailene Mitchell Smith, 91, of Arab died Tuesday, March 14, 2023, at Marshall Manor Health and Rehabilitation Center. 

Ms. Smith was born Nov. 25, 1931, in Cullman County to Jessie Washington Mitchell and Lillie Mae Taylor Mitchell. She was married to Fred Smith, who preceded her in death. 

She was a high school graduate and earned an associates degree. She retired from Redstone Arsenal where she work for over 33 years as a secretary.

She was an Arab resident for over 64 years, attended Arab First United Methodist Church and was a member of both the Mothers Club #2 and the Red Hat Society.

She was a big Alabama football fan.  She was primary caretaker of both her parents and her husband prior to their deaths. 

She is survived by her son: James “Mitch” Smith (Brandy Atchley Smith); and step grandchildren: Clay Brown, Will Brown, Ella Brown, and Porter Granados.

She was preceded in death by a brother: Millard Mitchell.

The funeral was at 2 p.m. Friday, March 17, 2023, at Arab Heritage Memorial Chapel with Randy Blakely officiating. Burial was in Arab Memorial Cemetery with Arab Heritage Memorial Chapel directing.

Pallbearers were Keith Garrison, Blan Milner, Tommy Milner, Mike Smith, Toby Smith and Jim Snider.  Honorary Pallbearer will be Brian Brown.
