The 12-year-old son of Arab High School math teacher Kevin Gray was killed Monday when a tree fell on him while riding a four-wheeler. He was killed instantly.

Eli Gray, 12, died following the tragic accident in Madison County, where he lived with his parents.

“We have been surrounded by family and friends as we grieve, and we know we have so many people praying for us,” Eli’s mother, Bethany Gray, said on social media. “We’re heavy in heart but also truly grateful for the 12 years that God entrusted him to us.”

Eli was described as a “boy full of life and a joy to so many.”

He loved being outside, playing basketball and soccer, climbing trees and running free.

“He was kind and caring and had a heart for the ‘least of these,’” his parents said. “Those who knew him, loved him and knew he loved the Lord. His life was precious and enjoyed by all those who were honored to know him.”

In addition to his parents, Eli is survived by his siblings: Canaan, Joel, Lillianna, Lucy and Peter Gray; his grandparents: Phil and Becky Butler, numerous cousins and aunts and uncles.
