The mother of a former Arab man wanted for murder in Cullman was arrested Thursday for hindering prosecution.

Audrey Cofield Smith, 61, of the Welti community was arrested by officers with the Cullman Police Department, Cullman County Sheriff’s Office and the U.S. Marshal’s Service.

The sheriff’s office didn’t specify what Smith is alleged to have done to hinder prosecution.

Smith is the mother of Nathan Winston Stephens, 43, formerly of Arab, who is charged with murder in Cullman County.

Stephens is charged in the Saturday, Sept 12, stabbing death of Herndon Self Jr., 56, of Hanceville.
