Arab resident Felica Jones is making her first run for elected office. Jones is seeking the Place 4 seat on the Arab City Council.

The seat is currently held by Mike Allen, who is seeking re-election. The municipal election is Tuesday, Aug. 25.

Jones is the benevolence director at Temporary Emergency Service of Arab (TESA) thrift store and food pantry.

“I imagine that many people know me from there as the ‘Tessa Lady,’” Jones said. “God helped me find the perfect job when he led me there, as I have the opportunity to work and help people meet their basic needs every day. In addition, through this ministry, I am also able to assist with Christian Women’s Job Corps, whose mission it is to assist women learn the skills they need to be successful as they enter the work force for the first time, or reenter after a period of time.

“It is truly a blessing to be part of such a wonderful program,” she continued. “Before God led me to TESA, I previously worked in the Arab City Schools’ lunchrooms (elementary and high school), and worked for many years at Arab Primary School in the Extended Day and Extended Summer programs.”

Jones said she has always shied away from politics and running for office because she felt they didn’t fit her personality.
