Tommy Griffin, 74, probably better known as Mr. Morgan City, died Sunday at home surrounded by family and friends following a lengthy illness.
A celebration of life is planned for 2 p.m. Sunday, April 18, at The Lazy G in Greenbriar Cove. The family requests in lieu of funeral arrangements, that live plants, including shrubs, trees and flowers, that can be planted at Tommy’s home, would be appreciated.
Griffin was more than a successful businessman. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend to many.
Griffin owned and operated several businesses over the years, including Griffin Developers, Griffin Co-nstruction, Griffin Land Invest-ments, Lazy G Wedding Chapel and Lazy G Cattle Farm, just to name a few.
He also was single handedly responsible for bringing more businesses to Morgan City than anyone.
If he thought he could get a business to locate in Morgan City, he would build the building and lease it to them.
Griffin recruited doctors, dentists, pharmacies, grocery stores and much more to the Morgan City area.
Griffin was born in West Palm Beach, Fla., in 1946, to Ezra and Clara Griffin. Ezra and Clara, both originally from the Morgan City area, moved back here when Tommy was a baby.
