The Marshall County Commission is holding a public hearing at 9 a.m. today (Wednesday) to discuss a possible $20 tag fee for county residents that would fund school resource officers in county schools.
District 1 Commissioner Ronny Shumate said he is in favor of the fee, provided it is limited to:
• Two per household;
• Exempt city residents;
• Exempt those 65 and older;
• Exempt those on disability.
In order for Marshall County Schools to have a school resource officer (SRO) in each of its 14 schools, the county board of education (BOE) had to request funding assistance from the commission.
