Three public hearings were held at Tuesday’s Arab City Council meeting that included approving an alcohol beverage license, rezoning property on Main Street, and amending the city’s zoning ordinance.

Kim Johnson, who serves as the zoning assistant for the city, said the ordinance updates permitted uses and setbacks for various zones and clarifies other matters including “urban mix development standards.”

Johnson said several things are updated in urban mix that, other than the downtown historical district, generally covers an area from “the cemetery to the overpass.”

Basically, urban mix pertains to the area where residential and business structures are allowed side by side.
