The Arab city limits expanded a bit following the only official business of the city council's recent meeting.
No one spoke during a required public hearing and the council approved annexing a one-acre parcel of property at 364 Hulaco Road.
“The planning commission recommended that we approve the annexation,” said Mayor Bob Joslin.
Billy and Sara Jo Morrow petitioned to annex the property, located at the intersection of Hulaco Road and Hogjaw Road.
While that was the only official business Monday night, council members and the mayor did discuss other issues.
Councilman Mark Gullion told the council that SugarFest should be a great event for the city.
Scheduled for Saturday, Aug. 31, the day-long event at Arab City Park will begin with a 5K run and beauty pageant and conclude with fireworks and a free movie – “I Can Only Imagine.”
“It’s going to be huge,” Gullion said. “It is very well organized. Vendors are coming in from Georgia, Tennessee and other locations with good quality merchandise. The kids zone is unbelievable and the fireworks are going to be great.”
