Arab Electric Cooperative is planning a required maintenance outage for the Cherokee Ridge subdivision.

Residents in Cherokee Ridge will be without power, beginning at midnight on Saturday, May 11, weather permitting. If there are storms or heavy rains, the outage work will be postponed until the following Saturday night at midnight, May 18.

Residents are expected to have power restored before 6 a.m. Sunday morning, according to AEC general manager Scott Spence.

“Currently, there are two vacuum switches in operation that have been there since 1991,” Spence said. “Those switches have a recommended life of 20 to 30 years, and these are now 28 years old, and not in proper working condition.
