Marshall County could have a new municipality in the coming months as residents of Cherokee Ridge have petitioned the Marshall County Probate Court calling for a referendum on the matter.
Cherokee Ridge is a residential golf course community that was developed by the late Sid McDonald.
It is about 8 miles north of Arab and about a mile west of Allens Crossroads.
Cherokee Ridge currently has 160 homes and approximately 350 residents, with more houses being built.
The petition presented to Marshall County Probate Judge Andrea LeCroy was signed by 120 Cherokee Ridge property owners.
Paul Harris, president of the Cherokee Ridge Property Owner’s Association, said the association’s board voted unanimously to support the measure.
