Saturday is “chalk day” from noon to 3 p.m. Saturday at Arab Police Department.

It’s an event for children to draw pictures and write messages of encouragement and support for officers on the parking lot at Arab Police Department.

Baylee Cornelius, the fiancé of a Boaz police officer, started the event a few weeks ago. So far, they have held events at Boaz and Southside police departments and the Etowah County Sheriff’s Office.

“We appreciate law enforcement so much,” Cornelius said. “We understand this is a difficult time for law enforcement and hope this induces a trend for local communities to show some love. We want to help spread the love for our officers.”

Cornelius said those participating Saturday should bring their own chalk and drinks, because the weather is supposed to be hot.
