A special called meeting by the Arab Electric Cooperative to address the fiscal year 2020 budget produced a vote but little else, aside from heated discussion.

After considerable debate, the draft budget was voted down 5-3. Since the vote came after the board dealt with a discussion item, not an action item, it would have required approval by two-thirds majority, because of a recent policy change approved by the board.

If the vote comes up July 22, the board’s regularly scheduled monthly meeting, approval is a simple majority vote.

Voting for the proposed budget Monday were board members Dianne Prestridge, Charles S. Whisenant and Janet Bright. Voting against were Billy Stricklend, (Tribune editor) Charles W. Whisenant, Charlie Griffin, Mark Holmes and Roger Head.
