For the 16th consecutive year, Arab Elementary School students (and parents) are selling subscriptions to The Arab Tribune as a fundraiser for the school’s Parent Teacher Organization (PTO).

The subscription drive begins Wednesday and goes through Friday, Aug. 30.

Students have a little extra incentive to sell the most in the form of spending money.

The three students who sell the most subscriptions will win gift cards worth $75, $50 and $25.

The top sellers each week will have their photos put in the paper.

Proceeds from the drive will be used to help purchase playground equipment, according to AES PTO president Angela Maze.

Last year the subscription drive also helped purchase playground equipment for the school.

In the past, the PTO has also used the proceeds to pay for new computers, locks for classroom doors and to install security cameras throughout the school and more.

“We are excited to kick off our annual Tribune drive,” said AES principal Jessica McCrary. “This is an Arab Elementary School tradition that our school and community look forward to each year. The Tribune is a strong supporter of our school district, and we are delighted to once again partner with the newspaper. We also are blessed with an amazing PTO that works hard to support our students and staff. Purchasing or renewing your subscription is just one of the many ways you can be involved in supporting our students.

“A big thank you goes out to our president, Angela Maze, for coordinating the drive,” she continued. “If you are interested in supporting our efforts by purchasing or renewing your Tribune subscription, please see one of our students or e-mail me: jmccrary@arabcityschools.org.”

The paper costs just $27 a year for subscriptions in the Brindlee Mountain area, including Arab, Union Grove, Joppa, Grassy, Warrenton, Bailetyon, Holly Pond, Lacey’s Spring, Morgan City and Marshall County. Subscriptions outside the trade area are $50 a year.

Last year’s effort raised about $2,000 for the PTO.

The paper will donate $5 for every new subscription sold and $3 for each renewal to the PTO. Those who renew their subscriptions through a student before their current subscription expires will have 12 months added.

If subscribers have, say, six months remaining on a subscription and it’s renewed through a student, the subscriber will have 18 months remaining. Please mark the “renewal” or “new” box on the form.

“Tribune subscriptions and renewals make great gifts, especially for college students or former residents of Arab who like to keep up with hometown news,” Maze said.

“Everything the PTO collects is put back in the classroom,” Maze said. “When you donate to the PTO, you are donating directly to the classroom.”

Anyone not contacted by a student or parent can pick up a form at the AES front office.
