I’d like to brag a bit on a few people.
During the recent catastrophic rain event, many departments went above and beyond what is normally required. If you count December 2018 till the end of February 2019, our area of Marshall County received a lot of rainfall.
Your employees of Marshall County District 1 worked many hours during this event.
Several call outs required my foreman, Brett Barnard to go out during late night and off days several times. When he called on our other employees, they responded quickly as well.
I’m very proud of my crew at District 1. Everyone worked together.
Anita McBurnett and her staff at Marshall County EMA were absolutely outstanding!
They were very good to get us updates on all events several times a day. Her staff even went door to door checking on residents in flooded areas.
EMA, Guntersville Rescue Squad and Arab Police Chief Ed Ralston assisted in removing a resident from Greenbrier Cove for a medical procedure.
Marshall County Sheriff Phil Sims, and his administrative staff, Doug Gibbs, Steve Guthrie and Jason Windsor, were always in communication with us.
They helped tell us about road issues.
I also was constantly on the phone with Marshall County Schools Superintendent Dr. Cindy Wigley. First and foremost was the safety of our children and residents.
The fire departments were great, too – Arab, Four-C, Ruth, Union Grove, Georgia Mountain and Brindlee Mountain.
All news media outlets were happy to pass out any information we had. The Arab Tribune, WRAB AM 1380, WAFN Fun 92.7, WAFF, WHNT and WAAY, were great to work with.
I’ve always been so proud to call Marshall County my home. This time, in my opinion, everyone did an outstanding job to keep everyone safe.
Marshall County District 1 Commissioner
