I don’t attend public meetings.

I’ve never been to a Marshall County Commission meeting, an Arab City Council meeting, an Alabama Electric Co-op meeting or an Arab Water Works meeting.

I have attended quite a few Arab Board of Education meetings while my sons were in school.

However, because of then-current issues, that attendance was based primarily on my being seen by the leaders, as opposed to me seeing them.

I have read many Facebook posts by our mayor that encourage his constituents to “attend council meetings.”

A local business owner wrote a letter to the Tribune a few years ago urging community members to attend as many city council meetings as possible.

Once there is a complaint voiced publicly, many responders ask, “Do you even attend the council meetings?”

Why do I have to attend these meetings?

Well, I don’t have to.
