It is a trait of human nature to take things for granted, but hundreds of generations of human development and history lie behind us.

We owe as much to the progress of our past as we do to ourselves.

Towns and states and nations do not grow to full boom over night.

Each day something new is added.

Each day’s accomplishments are made possible only because of what was discovered days before.

That’s the way our United States was built. Each town made up each state and those states make up the nation.

So what have been the contributions that Alabama has made to the United States during these past 200 years of the states’ existence?

That question was the subject of a discussion during at a recent Arab Historical Society meeting.

The following was put together after that discussion for this article.

All during Alabama’s 200 years there have been many wars fought by the U.S.
