I would like to take this opportunity to tell you how much we appreciate the Tribune printing the pictures and information of the Arab Civitan Club projects.

Because of the publicity that we receive through The Arab Tribune, we have added several new members who read about what we have done and would like to help people in our community.

I tell other Civitans throughout the U.S. and Canada how lucky we are in Arab to have a newspaper that will help us get the word out to people in the community about what we do and hopefully encourage others to step up and give of their time.

Civitan’s flagship project is to help mentally and physically disabled adults and children.

Locally the Civitans are dedicated to helping in our community.

The club has a full calendar of projects and fundraisers each year.

All of the funds raised go to community projects and causes with an annual donation to the Civitan International Research Center.

The projects change each year as a need is seen.

The Arab Civitans are more than a “meet and eat” club. We contribute to the community. A few of the current projects include:

• Fundraisers – Vidalia Onion Sales, Radio Day on WRAB, and Claxton Fruitcakes.

• Service Projects – Special Olympics and high school seniors picnics in the park; Diaper Drive for DHR; Adopt a Mile; Cookies with Santa, Food at Thanksgiving, toiletries collections that vary where they are donated, school supplies, supplies for school nurses, benches in city park, recognizing special education teachers and aides with a bag of goodies, patient bags for Marshall Cancer Center, and items to the Shriner’s Hospital.

These are some of the planned projects for the coming year.

The Arab Civitans would love to have you as a member.

The club meets at 6:30 p.m. the second Tuesday of each month in the Arab Masonic Lodge building on South Main Street next door to Otelco.
